OpenMRS Inc., the non-profit organization supporting the OpenMRS community, is hosting a new annual global gathering of contributors called OpenMRS Worldwide Summit, focused on building and growing both our community and our software. While our OpenMRS Implementers Meetings will continue to bring together OpenMRS implementers & health care professionals to focus on how OpenMRS is used, the annual Worldwide Summit will bring together OpenMRS people of all types, and will offer them opportunities to share their work, as well as discuss how software will evolve in the coming year. The first OpenMRS Summit is happening 8-14 December 2015 in Singapore.

The conference is divided into three distinct sessions.

  • OpenMRS Tutorials - Tuesday & Wednesday, 8 - 9 December 2015. For two days before the conference (Tuesday and Wednesday) OpenMRS Inc. will host a variety of educational tutorials that contributors and others can use to learn more about OpenMRS and Health IT. Both half-day tutorials and full-day workshops are available each day; details about each tutorial are posted to the right. Each tutorial has an associated fee to cover the expenses of trainers and materials; see the event registration page at http://omrs15.eventbrite.com/ for details. Discounts are available for full-time students and volunteer contributors.
  • Conference Sessions - Thursday - Saturday, 10 - 12 December 2015. The highlight of Worldwide Summit is our 2.5-day conference, where OpenMRS leaders and contributors will share new strategies, new technologies, and new ideas with each other in an interactive setting. The conference agenda will include both plenary talks and smaller multi-track talks.
  • Developer Hackathon - Sunday - Monday, 13 - 14 December 2015. If you are a developer/programmer, please join our free OpenMRS Hackathon on Sunday and Monday after the conference. AngularJS & REST Web Services 101
Tuesday, 14:00-18:00
OpenMRS software development is moving towards building web components that can work with each other, instead of being part of the Java module framework. Since the release of the webservices.rest module, we have focused on improving the REST resources so that we have a complete API that is accessible over HTTP and developers with different language skills can contribute. This tutorial will provide instructions on how to use the OpenMRS REST API to build custom user interfaces using modern/popular tools. Most efforts in the community have focused on using AngularJS, and we'll showcase some of the "best practices" in AngularJS development.
Instructor: Darius Jazayeri

Extending & Customizing OpenMRS
Wednesday, 09:00-18:00
In this full-day tutorial, you will learn how to extend OpenMRS's features and customize it for specific needs. Topics covered include Program management, workflows, reporting for stakeholders, clinical functions, and administration tasks. You will also learn to build basic add-on modules to extend OpenMRS functionality, and how to work with other module projects to improve them. We will look at development practices and "best practices" in OpenMRS module development such as using the SDK, using pre-built concept dictionaries and defining roles/privileges for the reference application. The tutorial will be useful for new developers, new implementers and for community members who want to look at the coolest/greatest modules for customizing OpenMRS. It might also be useful for people who want to get new ideas for modules.
Instructor: Daniel Kayiwa and Rafal Korytkowski

OpenMRS Concept Management
Wednesday, 09:00-13:00
Concepts are core metadata to capture data and manage information in OpenMRS. With some of the new initiatives like Open Concept Lab, metadata sharing module, maternalconceptlab.com, CIEL/MVP dictionary etc., management of concepts in OpenMRS has become convenient. In this half-day tutorial, you will learn about different approaches to manage concepts in OpenMRS. You could create own dictionary, adopt another dictionary, improve and add-on to another dictionary. This tutorial is targeted towards new implementers, developers who work on metadata management as well as implementers who are looking at features in OpenMRS to customize for different medical practices and departments.
Instructor: Dr. Andrew Kanter

Getting Data Out
Wednesday, 14:00-18:00
Once patient has been captured in OpenMRS, the next step towards improving systems of care is to analyze and understand that data. OpenMRS provides a number of reporting and analysis features that allow you to analyze data by creating patient cohorts, aggregate reporting, disease profiles etc. In this tutorial, you will learn how to build & customize reports for OpenMRS users & stakeholders. You will learn basic approach how to send aggregate data to other systems, but the primary goal of the tutorial is to showcase the features from the reporting module.
