Wake Forest Baptist Still Recovering From Epic Disruptions

Still recovering from the costly implementation of a new electronic medical records system, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center will post an operating loss this fiscal year, medical center officials told investors Monday.

During an investors call following the posting of its third-quarter financials, Wake Forest Baptist Chief Financial Officer Ed Chadwick said third-quarter results were better than the second, and the fourth quarter is showing additional improvements. But Chadwick said an operating loss of $62.8 million three-fourths of the way through the fiscal year is too large to overcome.

"We do expect to have an operating loss for the year," Chadwick said. "But it's our expectation that that operating loss will be getting less significant over time."
