Opinion: N.J., American Need High-Quality Infrastructure For Economic Recovery

With this week designated Infrastructure Week by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Council on Competitiveness and more than a dozen allied organizations, now is the perfect time to contemplate the difficult job we face in restoring our infrastructure in New Jersey and nationally.

We cannot afford to underestimate the importance of infrastructure in attracting and retaining jobs and in our overall quality of life.

One particularly bright spot is the high level of investment we see in the privately owned freight rail network. Here in New Jersey, we are fortunate to have one of the nation’s busiest ports and to have freight rail access right at the water’s edge. This means that the goods that come into the port via ship can be loaded onto trains right at the dock. Both CSX and Norfolk Southern serve the facility every day and connect the port with Canada, the Northeast, the Midwest and beyond...
