Donald M. Voltz, MD is board-certified in informatics and anesthesiology. He is a researcher, medical educator, and entrepreneur. With more than 15 years of experience in healthcare, Dr. Voltz has been involved with many facets of medicine. He has performed basic science and clinical research and has experience in the translation of ideas into viable medical systems and devices.
He is currently Medical Director of the Main Operating Room, at the Aultman Hospital, Department of Anesthesiology. He is also Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, Case Western Reserve University and Northeast Ohio Medical University.
He was an MD at Metro Health Medical Center before serving as an anesthesiologist.
Dr. Voltz is an advocate of open systems and a firm believer that EHR lack of interoperability can be solved through platforms such as middleware. He supports organizations such as Zoeticx and others who are building solutions to foster interoperability and bring about open medical work flow.
He believes in technologies like open APIs that will help foster greater development of medical applications. Open APIs enable developers to focus on their innovation rather than the cumbersome development environment of being tied to specific EHR databases. They also spawn faster to market solutions that can be created more economically.
