Harrison Schramm, has been a professional in the Operations Research and Statistics community for the past 15 years, with experience in both teaching and applications. His applied roles have included work with CANA Advisors, LLC, a small, Woman Owned / Veteran Owned Operations Research / Statistics consultancy focusing on creating useful knowledge and outcomes for clients with messy data problems.
He previously served as a Military Assistant Professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, teaching courses in Statistics, Optimization, and applied methods. During that period, his research focused on using mathematics to understand the issues around conflict in cyberspace. Prior to his work in Operations Research, he was a helicopter pilot in the US Navy, assigned to squadrons in Norfolk, Guam and the island of Bahrain. in 2004, he received the Naval Helicopter Association's “Aircrew of the Year” award for the rescue of 27 merchant sailors in the Gulf of Oman.
His peer-reviewed work has appeared in INTERFACES, J. Applied Meteorology and Climatology, J. Mathematical Biosciences, Military Operations Research, and Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine. He is the 2014 recipient of the Richard H. Barchi Prize. As part of his extensive service to the profession, he is a past Vice President of the Military Operations Research Society, and 2018 judge for the prestigious Franz Edelman Prize in Operations Research. He has previously served as Chair of the Education and Professional Development Colloquium, as well as the “Emerging Techniques Forum”.
His current research interests are at the intersection of data, models, and public policy.
