InterSystems HealthShare Certified for Secure, Trusted, and Interoperable Health Information Exchange

January 08, 2015-CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--InterSystems, a global leader in software for connected healthcare, today announced that the InterSystems HealthShare® informatics platform has successfully completed the eHealth Exchange Product Testing Program. As an eHealth Exchange Validated product, HealthShare supports a common set of standards and specifications that enable a secure, trusted, and interoperable connection among all participating eHealth Exchange organizations for the standardized flow of information, benefiting millions of patients.

Healtheway, a nonprofit, public-private collaborative, operationally supports the eHealth Exchange (formerly the Nationwide Health Information Network Exchange). Healtheway Founding Members are influential representatives from across the healthcare spectrum, including many InterSystems customers such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, Kaiser Permanente, New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC), Epic, and many others.

The eHealth Exchange is a group of federal agencies and other organizations that came together under a common mission and purpose to improve patient care, streamline disability benefit claims, and improve public health reporting through interoperable health information exchange (HIE). The eHealth Exchange facilitates information sharing among public and private healthcare organizations and expands connectivity in an efficient and cost-effective manner, by implementing a common set of requirements and using common set of shared services.

InterSystems HealthShare is among the first group of products that have passed the rigorous set of conformance tests to receive the eHealth Exchange Validated product designation. The program helps healthcare organizations by reducing the number of tests required and the associated time and cost of addressing interoperability issues.

According to Joe DeSantis, Vice President of HealthShare Platforms for InterSystems, “With this eHealth Exchange Validation, we provide a valuable assurance to our HealthShare clients that they can participate in the growing eHealth Exchange community and achieve the strategic benefits of interoperability with little to no additional effort on their part. Our customers can spend less time and money on testing, and continue to focus their attention on providing true clinical value to their constituents.”

The eHealth Exchange began as an ONC nationwide health information network program in 2007. Since that time, a rapidly growing community of public and private organizations has been routinely sharing information in production. That community now represents thousands of providers and millions of patients. The eHealth Exchange now operates as an independently sustainable public-private community.

The eHealth Exchange automated testing process is expected to further increase the number of eHealth Exchange participants, which today stands at 81 healthcare organizations, with more than 100 others in the process of joining. These participants represent more than 1,000 hospitals, 6,000 medical groups and 60 million patients.
