LINBIT Enhances Red Hat Enterprise Linux with Full DRBD Support
LINBIT brings leading open source storage replication to most popular Linux platform!
Open source high availability powerhouse LINBIT announced full DRBD® support on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating system platform this morning. This enhances the world's most widely deployed Linux server platform with the industry's premier storage replication facility - all in a 100% open source software stack.
LINBIT, co-based in Vienna, Austria and Beaverton, OR, has been a cornerstone of the Linux high availability community for a decade. DRBD, LINBIT's block-level, synchronous replication solution has defined storage replication on Linux for ten years. It is part of the Linux kernel and is widely deployed across all industries in high availability solutions for databases, storage servers, virtualization and much more.
DRBD is immediately available to Red Hat Enterprise Linux customers through Red Hat's ISV program, as a fully supported third-party solution. DRBD fully integrates with the cluster management stack offered in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux High Availability Add-On.
LINBIT DRBD customers include Oracle, StrongMail and Brandeis University in the Americas, Vodafone in Europe, and InterSystems and Citizen in the Asia/Pacific region. World-wide DRBD installations are estimated at approximately 200,000 at this time.
"The combination of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and LINBIT's DRBD solution is a good example of how open source solutions can deliver enterprise-grade functionality at a significantly lower cost than legacy options," said Jeff Bernard, senior director, Platform ISV Program at Red Hat. "LINBIT has a strong reputation in the industry for delivering world-class high availability solutions on Linux. This partnership enables us to join forces and deliver excellent value to our joint customers."
Speaking for LINBIT, Americas CEO Kavan Smith commented on "a great opportunity for Red Hat customers to tap into LINBIT's expertise and enterprise support." He went on to call the collaboration "an exciting next step in the right direction: making enterprise open-source high availability affordable and accessible for everyone."
