Medsphere furthers commitment to OpenVista EHR product development: Welcomes Lily S. Chang as CTO
Silicon Valley technology veteran strengthens enterprise applications and code convergence for open source healthcare IT leader
Medsphere Systems Corporation, the leading provider of open-source healthcare enterprise solutions, today announced the addition of Lily S. Chang to the company’s leadership team as Chief Technology Officer. Prior to joining Medsphere, Lily served as Chief Technology Officer for Advent Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADVS), where, over the past 19 years, she helped grow the company from less than 100 employees to over 1000 today.
Lily’s extensive and varied experiences, as well as her personal philosophy of technology application, make her a great fit for the unique healthcare IT marketplace in general and for the development of Medsphere’s open source OpenVista EHR in particular.
“Just applying technology to a given job or industry does not necessarily make things better. This is especially true of healthcare, where so many non-technical realities impact how the technology must be designed and implemented,” said Medsphere President and CEO Irv Lichtenwald. “What Lily demonstrated most keenly at Advent was a deep understanding of the realities of technology adoption. Medsphere is extremely pleased that she has decided to focus her energies on advancing open source technology in healthcare.”
Indeed, while process automation and workflow efficiency are among Lily’s primary objectives with Medsphere, she knows that neither can happen without also focusing on people.
“Staying close to the customer and focusing on their needs is the key to building a great product. Medsphere’s focus is on improving the customer experience by adding new technologies only when they make sense for the customer,” Lily said. “We want to be on the bleeding edge, so our customers can be on the leading edge. But we also want to use technology smartly and appropriately—not chase it for its own sake—to bring value to our customers.”
Lily has a degree in chemistry from Taiwan’s Chung Yuan Christian University and has spent her entire career working to advance uses of technology.
About Medsphere and OpenVista
Founded in 2002 and based in Carlsbad, Calif., Medsphere Systems Corporation is an award-winning organization of clinical and technology professionals working to make quality health IT solutions accessible to organizations of virtually any size, shape or budget. Medsphere’s OpenVista® is a portfolio of clinical support products and professional services that leverages an electronic health record (EHR) system developed by the Department of Veterans Affairs. This VistA EHR is widely credited with helping transform the VA into the nation's most efficient and clinically effective healthcare organization. Medsphere’s subscription-based pricing model enables hospital, clinic and integrated delivery network customers to pay for OpenVista from their operating budget with no upfront costs or back-end balloon payments. Expert implementation and other services facilitate fluid and rapid transition to a paperless clinical environment focusing on best practices and evidence-based medicine in six to nine months. Medsphere also actively nurtures the Healthcare Open Source Ecosystem, a global community of customers, partners, developers and other online collaborators who drive OpenVista innovation, and provide a parallel development and support structure.
