Pistoia Alliance Launches New Open Innovation Platform
The Pistoia Alliance has today launched its new online Interactive Project Portfolio Platform (IP3) in order to encourage the entire life sciences research community to generate and share new, innovative ideas and drive the creation of novel, collaborative solutions that break down barriers in life science R&D.
Wilmington, DE (PRWEB) August 04, 2014--Open innovation in life sciences R&D is not a closed shop and often the best ideas come from outside. Gaining access to bright ideas created by researchers across the world, and indeed the general public, can have a significant impact on the ability of the research community as a whole to create new innovations that can accelerate research projects and reduce costs.
The non-profit Pistoia Alliance helps disseminate these pre-competitive innovations across the pharma industry and beyond, a process that ultimately results in giving the world access to better drugs faster. IP3 represents a substantial improvement in the efficiency and transparency of this open innovation process.
Developed in conjunction with Qmarkets, Pistoia Alliance IP3 allows anyone to browse, comment upon, vote for, champion or pledge contributions to existing proposals, or to submit new proposals of their own. Combined with a robust and transparent selection process that governs the orderly transition from proposal to active funded project, the platform allows all users to see the current status of their favourite proposal at all times and to interact with other users sharing an interest in turning their idea into reality.
Michael Braxenthaler, President of the Pistoia Alliance, said: “For too long, the life sciences industry has relied on its own limited internal sources of ideas to develop new ways of improving research systems and processes. Opening up the process with IP3 to allow anyone to contribute with equal consideration and fair and transparent discussion represents a major step forward, and we expect to see a good deal of disruptive innovation as a result. IP3 is an exciting project and I very much look forward to working with the creative and fresh approaches to R&D that it will generate.”
Pistoia Alliance IP3 is open to all to register, browse, contribute, and participate. The platform can be accessed at https://www.qmarkets.org/live/pistoia/home. A public webinar will be held at 4pm UK time on Wednesday 20th August to introduce and demonstrate IP3. Please email John Wise at john.wise(at)pistoiaalliance(dot)org for details on how to attend.
About the Pistoia Alliance
The Pistoia Alliance is a not-for-profit, cross-company, members’ organization, formally incorporated in the State of Delaware. It is committed to lowering the barriers to innovation in life sciences R&D by improving the interoperability of R&D business processes through precompetitive collaboration. It draws its membership widely from life science R&D including Pharma R&D, commercial information providers, technology companies and publicly funded research institutes. The Pistoia Alliance creates a virtual, open-innovation community by bringing together the key stakeholders to identify the root causes that lead to life science R&D inefficiencies and then develops best practices, technology implementations and standards to overcome these common obstacles.
