Open Health Tools (OHT): Latest News & Activities

Open Health Tools (OHT) just released the minutes of their latest Board Meeting from March 8, 2013, held in New Orleans, Louisianna. OHT is dedicated to improving the health of people through the transformation of health information technologies (HIT). The following is a brief summary of the meeting.

The minutes of the last Board Meeting and the latest Financial Report were presented and accepted. This was followed by a New Member Report. See presentations given by the new members: Phast, the Task Force for Global Health, and CACI. See the presentations by the new members posted online.

This was followed by updates on the following key OHT initiatives:

  • Platform Implementation Project (PIP)
  • Interface Library Project (ILP)
  • HingX - Health Ingenuity eXchange (HingX)

This was, in turn, followed by OHT Projects and Highlights by Brian Barry. Project reports are available on YouTube at www.youtube.com/openhealthtools.

New Charter Projects

The Architecture Council report was presented by Ken Rubin and Craig Miller. Key points included:

  • The need to bring platforms to the Architecture Council to coordinate how they can build on each other
  • Gail Hamilton with Mitre is leading the User Interface (UI) Platform initiative.

The rest of the meeting was devoted to the following Working Sessions & Hot Topics.

  • Interest in renewing the Academic Outreach project.
  • NSTIC has formed a Working Group focused on trusted identities in cyberspace, with a specialty in healthcare.
  • The need to move from passive participation to a more active participation that looks across other projects and using the website to encourage collaboration. 
  • The need for OHT to develop a truly sustainable organization.

The next OHT Board Meeting will be held on June 14, 2013, in Atlanta, Georgia.
