TraIT OpenClinica attracts more than 300 users
In the two years since OpenClinica was adopted as the preferred data capture tool for the TraIT (Translational Research IT) platform, its user base on the TraIT server has grown from 15 clinical studies to over 60 clinical studies involving more than 300 users.
Despite the fact that TraIT was initiated and continues to be funded by CTMM, over half of the current studies running on the TraIT OpenClinica server relate to non-CTMM projects. According to Marinel Cavelaars, leader of the TraIT project’s Clinical Research Data work package, that alone is proof that OpenClinica is meeting a widespread need within the Netherlands life-science research community. However, the success of TraIT’s web-based OpenClinica server is due to more than just its clinical data capture capabilities. Its real value lies in the fact that it will easily link to other data storage and analysis tools within the TraIT platform, allowing researchers to integrate and analyze case report data, imaging data, experimental data and biobanking information.
The CTMM TraIT (Translational Research IT) project is divided into seven work packages. Five of these aim to develop data capture and storage solutions for clinical, clinical imaging, pathology imaging, biobanking and experimental data - together encompassing the main data domains required for effective translational medical research. The sixth work package aims to establish cross-domain data extraction and analysis tools, while the seventh concentrates on the practical task of deploying and supporting the TraIT platform. Marinel Cavelaars is leader of the work package devoted to implementing OpenClinica as the TraIT platform’s preferred clinical data capture tool...
