600-bed NHS Hospital in England Goes Live with Open Source Electronic Record for Patients
Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust has become the first NHS hospital in the UK to go live with an open source electronic patient record (EPR), a landmark move expected to help staff deliver better patient care through improved access to information.The trust has successfully rolled out the system in A&E, theatres, outpatients and the hospital’s 30 wards with the support of IMS MAXIMS, after the software firm released the code for its open source EPR technology to the NHS just over a year ago. Up until now NHS trusts have depended on proprietary software in order to record and manage patient information.

NHS England Creates Open Source 'Super' Community Organization
NHS England has set up a ‘super CIC’ to act as a centre of excellence and attract funding for open source projects within health and social care. Peter Coates, NHS England's open source programme manager, told Digital Health News the new community interest company has already received a number of grants, including money from NHS England, to progress outcomes around urgent care and the Code4Health programme.

openMAXIMS CIC Founded as NHS Open Source Movement Gathers Pace
The NHS’ open source movement has reached a major milestone with the official launch of the openMAXIMS community interest company (CIC). This will guide the development of an open source electronic patient record system for the NHS. Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust formally signed an agreement on 18th December 2014 to become the initial members of the new organisation and have today received approved establishment from Companies House.

UK's Code4Health Interoperability Site Launched at EHILive 2015
A Code4Health community focusing on interoperability has been launched today at the EHI Live 2015 conference in Birmingham. NHS England has unveiled a new web tool to encourage people to discuss and define a list of key application programming interfaces needed to enable new models of working across health and social care. Inderjit Singh, head of enterprise architecture at NHS England, told Digital Health News the Code4Health community “is about bringing together localities, suppliers and national organisations as a group of peers.”

Using Open Source in the Enterprise - 13 CIOs Embracing Free and Open Source Software
Open source enterprise use cases appear to be on the rise, at least anecdotally, with an increasing number of CIOs, IT directors and Chief Technology Officers telling CIO UK about investigating and adopting free and open source alternatives to proprietary software as they seek to gain freedom and flexibility, cut costs, increase agility, improve code quality and avoid vendor lock-in.
