Girls' Skills Are Needed in Tech
ChickTech is based in Portland but plans to be nationwide by 2016. After interviewing Jennifer Davidson about how ChickTech gets girls involved in tech, I have high hopes it's even sooner. HIMSS14: Annual Conference and Exhibit Opening with Open Source Session
The 2014 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition opens today in Orlando, FL. (February 23-27). The more than 37,000 attendees can notice an important and growing breakthrough for the health IT industry. For the first time, HIMSS invited OSEHRA to hold a four hour session today beginning at 12:45 pm, Convention Center 203C. The day’s formal OSEHRA session, among the traditional industry businesses, marks a breakthrough recognition for the emerging benefits and impacts that open source solutions and their many new models of business are generating around the globe.

OKFest in Finland to Study Benefits of Open Knowledge and Open Development
The Open Knowledge Festival (OKFest) happens this September 17-22 in Helsinki, Finland with the theme Open Knowledge in Action. OKFest will explore the benefits of opening up knowledge and information, look at the ecosystems of organisations that can benefit from openness, and discuss the impact that more transparency can have in our societies. OKFest will run 13 key Topic Streams, one of which will focus on the topic of ‘Open Development’.

Let's all take a step back, though. Much of the open access movement is forward thinking, offering solutions and policy changes that will help improve access to future scholarship and research. Protein Map is an Open Resource for Health Research
A decade after the completion of the blueprint of the human genome, the Human Protein Atlas program on Thursday launched a tissue-based atlas covering the genome's protein complement. Based on 13 million annotated images, an interactive database has been created to show the distribution of proteins in all major tissues and organs in the human body.
