Disturbing new Microsoft Office strategy

According to Computerworld, Microsoft just confirmed that a retail copy of Office 2013 is permanently tied to the first PC on which it's installed, preventing customers from deleting the suite from one machine they own and installing it on another. Read the Computerworld article.

It's amazing! Why would anyone go along with this. Open Office or LibreOffice are just a couple of the great free and open source alternatives now available that you can easily install on as many devices as you want.

It will be interesting to watch the growth in the number of users of Open Office and LibreOffice over the coming year and to see whether Microsoft realizes it has made a major blunder and ultimately reverses itself. Their approach might work if they lowered the cost of Microsoft Office to $10 a copy.
