Architect for the Department of Defense's Nationwide Health Information Exchange adapter joins to continue work in Clinical Decision Support

SAN DIEGO – June 26, 2012 – Cognitive Medical Systems, an emerging specialist in standards-based, clinical decision support software solutions for healthcare organizations, today introduced recently retired U.S. Navy CAPT Emory Fry as their Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO).

Dr. Fry was the technical lead and architect for the Military Health System during the Department of Defense Nationwide Health Information Exchange and Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record demonstration projects. He was a leading military investigator in a number of research initiatives in medical informatics, clinical decision support, and workflow optimization.

In addition to his duties as a Navy physician and healthcare executive, Dr. Fry served asAdjunct Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics and as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. Dr. Fry received numerous awards and accommodations during his 22-year Naval career, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He received his undergraduate degree from Yale University, his medical degree from George Washington University, and completed his pediatric residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. Dr. Fry trained in Neonatology at the University of California, San Diego and is certified with the American Board of Pediatrics in the speciality.
