The Institution Of Engineering And Technology Signs With Copyright Clearance Center
The First Not-for-Profit Engineering Publisher to Offer Open Access Journal Articles Implements RightsLink® for Open Access to Manage Article Processing Charges for All Publications
Danvers, Mass. – Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a not-for-profit organization and leading provider of licensing and Open Access (OA) solutions, has announced that The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has chosen CCC’s RightsLink for Open Access to manage article processing charges for all of its open access journal publications, including the recently launched, The Journal of Engineering.
“Today publishers face an increasingly complex publishing environment in which Open Access is forcing them to consider new dynamics in their management of business models and processes. When we launched our first OA solution at CCC, the market was limited to a small number of articles and “one-size-fits-all” pricing and licensing models,” said Roy Kaufman, Managing Director, New Ventures, CCC. “The increased demand for OA content, funding agency requirements, and the need for streamlined transactions and reporting have created new complexities that need to be carefully managed.”
Publishers must provide a seamless article processing charge (APC) payment experience for authors and universities while demonstrating policy compliance to funding agencies. As they collect APCs from their authors, publishers must manage publishing requirements from funders and offer licensing options at the article level that are consistent with a publisher’s Open Access policies. Moreover, publishers must continually measure and test their OA business models – all with a focus on building a sustainable business. RightsLink for Open Access is a flexible solution that automates these processes.
RightsLink provides the most comprehensive OA solution on the market. RightsLink for Open Access can be integrated with a journal-production system or manuscript-submission workflow, providing publishers a secure way to manage APCs, submission charges, page and color charges, and author reprints. Further, RightsLink also allows publishers to offer “OA aware” licenses at the article level from their websites 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week, providing publishers with a complete OA solution from manuscript acceptance through post-publication licensing.
“Implementing RightsLink for Open Access makes total sense for us,” said Daniel Smith, Head of Academic Publishing, IET. “We look forward to increasing operational efficiency as we continue to work with CCC to refine and add to our service options for APC customers to help grow our business and improve author satisfaction.”
