Clinical Data Manager Mark Burns Explains How Intuitive Surgical Deployed Clinovo’s Open Source EDC System ClinCapture for Over 15 Studies

Sunnyvale, CA (PRWEB) October 23, 2013 -- Mark Burns, Clinical Data Manager at California-based medical device company Intuitive Surgical, cite accelerated study start-up time, autonomy, and significant cost-savings as key benefits of open source Electronic Data Capture (EDC) system ClinCapture.

In a 5-min interview, Mark Burns explains how Intuitive Surgical ran over 15 post-market approval studies for Intuitive Surgical’s Da Vinci® Surgical System on Clinovo’s EDC system. Intuitive Surgical’s surgical system is installed in more than 2,025 academic and community hospital sites. The video interview features in ‘Inside ClinCapture’, a series of videos highlighting the team and customers behind ClinCapture.

Intuitive Surgical was looking for an EDC tool to use for working with surgeons to collect data for clinical studies. They needed a cost-efficient solution that they could easily deploy for their several small-sized phase IV studies. Mark Burns followed a comprehensive study builder training on ClinCapture and Clinovo validated the EDC system on Intuitive Surgical’s servers. It allowed Intuitive Surgical to build their own studies, create electronic Case Report Forms (eCRFs) and configure the system in-house, bringing cost significantly down.

“Clinovo developed and validated the first instance of ClinCapture, then our trained team repeated the process for 14 more studies without that initial cost factor,” states Mark Burns. “ClinCapture saved us a lot of money, at least 50%, probably significantly more.”

Previous videos in the ‘Inside ClinCapture’ series include interviews with Clinovo’s CTO Marc Desgrousilliers and Senior EDC Manager Tom Hickerson. They discuss ClinCapture users and developers community, ClinCapture’s roadmap, upcoming features, and their vision for the future of open source EDC.

ClinCapture is a leading open source Electronic Data Capture system. Tailored to meet the needs of pharmaceutical and medical device companies looking to run early and late phase clinical studies, it offers advanced features with low startup costs, no license fees nor vendor lock-in.

Clinovo recently released ClinCapture 1.0.3 with new functions including Randomization, Dynamic Groups, and Calendared Events. ClinCapture has also been complemented with an integrated eClinical Suite introducing plug-and-play modules such as ePRO (Patient Reported Outcome), CTMS (Clinical Trial Management System), and a new offline mode.

These features will be presented in a monthly ‘Virtual Update’ from CTO Marc Desgrousilliers. These short 20-min webinars will feature a demo of new added functions, a sneak peek on the roadmap, and a Q&A session. The ‘Virtual Update’ series will officially launch on October 25th. Registration can be found on the Clinovo webinar page.
