Kitware Welcomes New Employees and Anticipates Continued Growth in 2011

Kitware today announces new additions to its research and development and support teams, reflecting the company’s continued success. As a software company that builds open-source software and develops advanced research solutions, Kitware has experienced sustained growth in the past five years, with revenue increasing from $5.6 million in 2005 to over $15 million in 2010.

Driven by newly awarded research funding and commercial contracts, Kitware is extending its immediate hiring needs in both the New York and North Carolina offices and expects to add at least 15-20 additional new team members to its workforce before the end of 2011. Kitware is actively seeking talented, motivated, and creative individuals for a variety research and development positions in computer vision, biomedical imaging, high performance computing and informatics.

Renowned Expertise Acquired for R&D Engineering

Xiaoxiao Liu, Nicole Wardle, Michael Grauer, and Linus Sherrill joined as research and development engineers.

Xiaoxiao Liu earned her Ph.D. in computer science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a doctoral dissertation titled “Shape-correlated Statistical Modeling and Analysis for Respiratory Motion Estimation.” At Kitware, Liu is working on the modularization of the Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK).

Nicole Wardle recently completed her M.S. in Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with a concentration in artificial intelligence. At Kitware, her development efforts are focused on the Persistent Stare Exploitation and Analysis System (PerSEAS) and, more recently, the Video and Imagery Retrieval and Analysis Toolkit (VIRAT).

Michael Grauer has extensive experience in engineering commercial and research software. He earned his M.S. in Computer Science from Drexel University in Philadelphia, where his research focus was digital archiving. Grauer is working on Kitware’s MIDAS, a tool that integrates multimedia server technology with Kitware’s open-source data analysis and visualization clients.

Linus Sherrill is a software architect and developer with expertise in data acquisition and control for medical devices, mechanical device simulation, data visualization, and weather forecasting systems. He earned his M.S. in Computer Science from Union Graduate College. At Kitware, Sherrill is working on maintaining and enhancing the video motion tracker component of the VIRAT system.

Kitware Maximizes Operations with Additional Staff

Kitware hired additional personnel to support the operations, finance and communications departments of the growing company.

Deb Howell graduated from the Architectural Engineering program at Greenville Technical College and has extensive experience in administrative management positions. She is the Office Manager for Kitware’s Carrboro, NC office.

Katie Osterdahl assumed the Communications Specialists position at Kitware, where her experience in various areas of marketing and communications enable her to create and execute programs that enhance and promote Kitware and its products.

Laura Curthoys joined Kitware as an office assistant. She is responsible for organizing and coordinating the day-to-day office operations and supporting the finance department. She has many successive years of corporate experience in various sales, operations and administrative support positions.

Vicki Rafferty joined Kitware as a Contracts Administrator. She has extensive experience in negotiating and executing subawards and subcontracts, preparing specialized reports on subcontractors, and maintaining electronic databases to track subcontracts and subawards. As Kitware’s contract administrator, oversees contract development, review, and negotiation procedures

Kitware has an active events calendar and is attending conferences, workshops and industry meetings to bolster its hiring efforts.
