CHC Electronic Health Record Project Gets $328,655 From MPLT

THE Marianas Public Land Trust yesterday issued a check for $328,655 to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. for its electronic health record project. Saying it has conducted due diligence while recognizing  the project’s importance, the MPLT board approved the release of funds which represent the initial drawdown for CHC’s $1.58 million loan.

MPLT board members then handed the check to CHC officials headed by chief executive officer Juan N. Babauta and chief financial officer Alvaro Santos. Dr. Norman Okamura, director, University of Hawaii Telecommunications and Social Informatics Research Program, was also in attendance and gave the trustees an update about the electronic health record project.

CHC CEO Juan N. Babauta said, “I am very gratified with the MPLT board in demonstrating their willingness to help the healthcare corp.” Babauta said MPLT is not only helping CHC, but it is also supporting a project that will benefit the CNMI as a whole. As for the emergency health record project, Babauta believes the CNMI is “way in advance of all the other jurisdictions in this.”...
