Use of iPad & Mobile EHR Apps Skyrocket According to Black Book Survey
2013 isn’t just the year of EHR replacement: it’s the year of anywhere, anytime access to EHRs through iPads, smartphones, and other mobile devices, according to new survey data released by Black Book Market Research. An overwhelming majority of physician practices, hospitalists, and EHR vendors are all turning to mobile EHR applications to enhance their access to patient information both in the office and on the go.
“A mandate has been issued and progressive vendors are reacting,” reports Doug Brown, Managing Partner of Black Book Research. “A full 100% of practices participating in the poll expect EHR systems that allow access to patient data wherever physicians are providing or reviewing care. The vast majority of all survey respondents favored mobile applications that focus on the patient data and core parts of medical practice most needed when the physician is away from the office setting.”
One hundred percent of hospitalists, 98% of primary care physicians, and 92% of office-based physicians report a strong preference for EHR systems that include mobile apps for tablets and smartphones, and with widespread dissatisfaction causing waves in the EHR market, vendors are sitting up and taking notice.
