Carequality Launches Significant Industry-Wide Effort Focused On Achieving Interoperability Between Existing And Emerging HIE Networks
Healtheway today announced the formation of Carequality (pronounced “care-e-quality”), a new initiative dedicated to accelerating progress in health data exchange among multi-platform networks, healthcare providers, electronic health record (EHR) vendors and health information exchange (HIE) vendors. Carequality is an open, transparent and inclusive industry-driven effort. It will convene stakeholders and facilitate industry consensus to develop and maintain a standards-based interoperability framework that enables information exchange between and among networks.

HIMSS14: HL7 International Launches Conformance Testing Program at HIMSS14
Health Level Seven®(HL7®) International will officially launch a new Conformance Testing Program for HL7 standards Feb. 25. A round table briefing about the program that features HL7 leadership and program partners is set for 12:20-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the HL7 booth (#1265 in Hall A) at the HIMSS14 Conference in Orlando, Fla. HIMSS19: Open Source Software for Disaster Preparedness and Response
Although not officially listed as a track at the HIMSS19 conference, there are a series of very important presentations on the use of open source software for disaster preparedness and response. This is a critical topic that we have covered extensively in Open Health News. As we detailed in this article, there was a major failure in being able to provide victims of Hurricane Harvey, as well as Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria with access to their medical records. Few emergency medical responders could access their records either. The two success stories that came out of the hurricanes were two open source electronic health record (EHR) systems, OpenEMR and the VA's open source VistA EHR.

Major Interoperability Initiative Launched During the Annual Meeting of The Sequoia Project
On December 5, 2019, HLN Consulting, LLC participated in The Sequoia Project's day long annual meeting which was held just outside of Washington, D.C. at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. As a leading healthcare informatics consulting company HLN monitors developments in healthcare interoperability nationally with particular emphasis on the impact to public health agencies and their stakeholders. This conference represented a good opportunity to participate in the start of a major interoperability initiative that will play out over the next several years. ONC Timeline for TEFCA Going Live in 2022
Today we are pleased to announce the timeline for the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA). The 21st Century Cures Act, signed by President Obama in 2016, calls on ONC to "develop or support a trusted exchange framework, including a common agreement among health information networks nationally."... The timeline released today-for completion of the Trusted Exchange Framework, the Common Agreement Version 1 and the Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) Technical Framework (QTF) Version 1-establishes our goal to have this new network open for participation in the first quarter (Q1) of calendar year 2022.
