Moorfield's OpenEyes catches award judges’ eyes
Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been shortlisted for a clinical IT leadership award for OpenEyes, its open source electronic patient record system, in the E-Health Insider (EHI) Awards 2012. The EHI Awards reward excellence in healthcare IT and are judged by a panel of distinguished industry experts. The winner will be announced during an awards ceremony in London in October.

Moorfields Takes First Step Towards Paperless Systems
Moorfields Eye Hospital has commissioned Hicom, a leading provider of clinical information software, to develop and improve the functionality of OpenEyes, the specialist Electronic Medical Record (EMR) application for ophthalmology. The investment will enable Moorfields to move towards a fully paperless system that will provide clinicians real-time access to patient records across the trust’s 32 locations. NHS England Creates Open Source 'Super' Community Organization
NHS England has set up a ‘super CIC’ to act as a centre of excellence and attract funding for open source projects within health and social care. Peter Coates, NHS England's open source programme manager, told Digital Health News the new community interest company has already received a number of grants, including money from NHS England, to progress outcomes around urgent care and the Code4Health programme.

Open Source To Be Big Tech Fund 2 Winner (UK)
Open source projects will likely be the stand-out winners of NHS England’s tech fund 2 awards, EHI News has learned. Projects based on use of open source clinical software are expected to be largely spared the axe that has been wielded on other projects, after an estimated £90 million was slashed from the £240 million Integrated Digital Care Technology Fund according to EHI News sources.
