Axesson’s California Direct HISP Selects iBlueButton to Provide Patients with Mobile Access to Healthcare Records
Humetrix...today announced that its iBlueButton app has been selected by California Direct, to provide participating physicians with the means to securely transmit medical records to patients via their mobile devices. The addition of the iBlueButton app adds mobile capabilities to the California Direct offering for the first time, allowing patients to receive and carry their medical records and share them with doctors at the point of care.

New Blue Button Directory Unveiled at HIMSS17
The National Association for Trusted Exchange (NATE) today unveiled NATE's Blue Button Directory (NBBD) at the HIMSS17 annual conference in Orlando, FL. This FHIR-based solution is the newest prototype being developed by NATE to make it easier for consumers and providers to share data to improve outcomes. Consumers are actively requesting their medical records and providers want to share them but there is often a workflow disconnect between the two. As part of the Federal Health Architecture's vignette in the HIMSS17 Interoperability Showcase (Level 2 | Lobby F | Tangerine Ballroom | Booth 9000), NATE and its partners are demonstrating how a simple enabling infrastructure can alleviate this problem...

The Evolving Landscape of Health Information Exchange
The original vision for nationwide health information exchange was a “network of networks” model where local HIEs would interact HIE-to-HIE to form a virtual national network. But notice that many of the new initiatives are essentially solving a different problem: they are enabling point-to-point connections across a wider geography and set of clinical sites. This seems more like a large, single national network rather than leverage of more distributed organizations or implementations. Only time will tell if these private sector initiatives will collaborate, converge or compete. And only time will tell of the limitations of ONC’s ability to influence and provide leadership will creates gaps or provide new opportunities for innovation.
