Press Release | OSEHRA | July 11, 2018

The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) will host its 7th Annual Open Source Summit: The Open Road for Government Innovation from Wednesday, July 18 through Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.

VIENNA, Va. (PRWEB) July 11, 2018--This year's three-day OSEHRA Open Source Summit promises to be the most diverse ever, highlighting open source initiatives across a dozen Federal and State agencies, and showcasing industry progress in key areas such as emerging hybrid proprietary/open source interoperability solutions and synthetic patient data generation.

One company leading the move to platform-based hybrid solutions is Perspecta, this year's Conference Sponsor. Officially launched on June 1, Perspecta was formed through a merger of the U.S. Public Sector Business of DXC Technology with Vencore Holding Corporation and KeyPoint Government Solutions. "Perspecta is proud to sponsor the 2018 OSEHRA Summit," said Mac Curtis, CEO of Perspecta. "We look forward to a highly interactive conference, and plan to demonstrate our latest efforts in platform development and the use of synthetic patient data for testing." Perspecta will be joined by Gold Sponsors DSS, Inc. and Cognosante, as well as other sponsors and exhibitors.

This year's agenda includes a combination of engaging track sessions, town-hall discussion, and plenary events. The content will be exceptionally diverse, including:

  • An interoperability platform demonstration drawing healthcare data from multiple health record systems;
  • A demonstration of synthetic patient data generation, including the first public demonstration of tailored synthetic data being loaded into the open source VistA Electronic Health Record (EHR) via a new open source data loader;
  • A special working session on the Veterans Affairs Partnership to increase Access to Lung Screening, ( VA-PALS, a high-profile software project to manage lung cancer screening within Veterans Affairs); and
  • More than thirty presentations on technical, clinical, and management topics of interest.

Mac CurtisThursday's Plenary Session includes a morning Keynote by Ed Simcox, Acting Chief Technology Officer of the Department of Health and Human Services, and an afternoon Keynote by MG Lee E. Payne, MD, Assistant Director for Combat Support Agency, Defense Health Agency (DHA). These two keynotes will be followed by speakers and panelists from agencies such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Indian Health Service (IHS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), National Security Agency (NSA), National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD), Social Security Administration (SSA), and Veterans Health Administration (VHA). In addition to Government participants, key industry players such as Cognosante, Deloitte, DSS, DXC Technology, Intermountain Healthcare, InterSystems, and Unisys Federal will be part of Thursday's wide-ranging agenda.

"Open Source has evolved tremendously throughout Government," said Seong K. Mun, PhD, President and CEO of OSEHRA. "It has transitioned from a curiosity to a pervasive and mission-critical part of Federal and State IT solutions. This year's Summit will show just how widespread and useful open source code can be. We expect a highly interactive event with unique networking opportunities."
