Senior Executives from UK Government “Skunkworks” Project and RedMonk to Present at TransferSummit
TransferSummit today announced that visionaries from the UK Government Skunkworks project and analyst firm RedMonk will present at the premiere Open Source event for IT executives and researchers 5-8 September in Oxford, UK.
TransferSummit provides strategic solutions that improve collaboration between commercial and academic concerns, offers access to valuable research, and transfers creative ideas to meet business challenges through the use of Open Source technologies. General sessions kick off with a keynote presentation by James Governor, Co-Founder of Open Source analyst firm RedMonk, titled “Open Business and The Open Society: The Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance”.
The must-attend gathering for intelligent conversation focuses on the opportunities and implications of Open Source across technologies, industries, and innovations. Participants will have a unique opportunity to listen from and pose questions to members of the UK Government “Skunkworks” project, created to develop low-cost, fast and agile ICT solutions.
A special plenary session by Tariq Rashid, Lead Architect, Home Office, titled “UK Government Open Source Action Plan” will provide an in-depth view on bringing open standards, development, and innovation to Government systems. This session will launch lively, open-forum debates on strategies and best practices for levelling the procurement playing field.

A plenary session by Mark O'Neill, Chief Information Officer: DCMS Open Data Campaign/Communities and Local Government, and Founder: Cabinet Office Skunkworks project, titled “Innovating in Government ICT” will begin the day's sessions. Audience members will have the opportunity to address business and technology concerns and provide feedback, from which select topics will form part of the agenda for a round-table government summit to be held immediately following. Facilitated by key members of the TransferSummit team, the interactive, by-invitation-only group will allow solutions providers, systems integrators, vendors, and government representatives the opportunity to focus on solving myriad challenges in adopting and deploying solutions across government domains.

TransferSummit will be held 5-8 September 2011 at Keble College in Oxford, UK. The enterprise-research forum allows participating researchers and IT executives an intimate setting to address the requirements, challenges, and opportunities in the use, development, licensing, and future of Open Source technology. This year’s theme, “Open Innovation Everywhere”, dovetails open development, collaboration and innovation with due diligence, procurement, and total cost of ownership of Open Source mobile solutions.
