Open Access Resources at University of Kashmir
Proceedings of a day-long seminar on Open Access Resources organized by Allama Iqbal Library on 18th December, 2012
No library can afford to subscribe to every scientific publication and most can only afford a small fraction of them. The Open Access movement believes it can solve this problem to a great extent. There are a variety of definitions of "open access," and the concept is still evolving; however, several key documents, which build upon each other, collectively comprise the best current definition of this term.
In December 2001, the Open Society Institute convened a meeting of prominent scholarly communication change agents in Budapest that strongly influenced the nascent open access movement. The result of this meeting was the "Budapest Open Access Initiative" (BOAI). Its definition of open access (OA), while refined by subsequent documents, remains the most influential one to this day...
In this regard, Allama Iqbal Library, University of Kashmir organized a “one day seminar on Open Access Resources” on 18th December, 2012 to create greater understanding about the benefits of Open Access Resources in scholarly communication and to highlight different Open Access Resources in various subject fields. The seminar was attended by the University Officials, Academics, Research Scholars and students, besides various College Principles and Librarians of colleges and other universities of Kashmir division. There was no registration fee and all the arrangements were made by Allama Iqbal Library...
